On Tuesday, the Sixth Form RS and Philosophy students, as well as UC5 (Year 11) Academic Scholars had the pleasure of working with Dr Michael Lacewing throughout the morning.
Dr Lacewing was a brilliant speaker, extremely engaging and even humorous at times. His presentation on 'Mind, Soul and Body' focused mostly on criticising the theories of Plato, Aristotle and Descartes and evaluating which is most coherent.
After the break, the topic switched to ethical theory, delving into Mill’s utilitarianism and Kantian ethics. I particularly enjoyed working in our small discussion groups to present our opinions and hear what other people had to say regarding Dr Lacewing’s ideas and questions for thought. The experience encouraged us to all discuss and think in different ways and become better philosophy students.
