Principal's visit to Asia
18th May 2023

After a few years of restricted travel, it was a pleasure for a small group from CLC to return to Asia. The Principal together with Director of Admissions, Mr Richard Houchin, and Director of Development and Alumnae Relations, Ms Rebecca Ting, visited three countries meeting members of the CLC community, feeder schools and prospective parents.

Shanghai

Thanks to the meticulous planning of the China Parents’ Society representatives, a very short visit to Shanghai covered three events including a presentation to prospective families, welcome event for families joining in September 2023, and a fundraising dinner. The main venue was a carefully reconstructed ancient building from Guilin, where some of our new pupils enjoyed dressing up in traditional costumes. Later on, current parents sampled the cuisine of Guilin in a banquet style menu before a Q&A with the CLC team.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong provided many opportunities to connect and re-connect with a wide cross-section of the community over meetings and meals. Some other highlights included:

  • The CLC Flourish Dinner at the Aberdeen Marina Club where the Principal spoke passionately about College’s Strategic Plan to 2030

  • The Principal and Director of Admissions were invited to speak to pupils and parents at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong

  • 45 Guild Members ranging from the 1980s to class of 2019 met at The China Club for drinks. It was a real pleasure to welcome Guild Hon Members (former staff) Jessica Darke, Alex Yip and Mark Stacey who were delighted to see so many former students

  • A moment of calm with a trip to the beautiful Tsz Shan Monastery.

 Singapore

The last leg of the trip saw the Principal return to Singapore for the first time in 8 years. It was wonderful to see 60 members from across the entire CLC Community (Guild, current and past parents) for a drinks reception at the Shangri-La.

Huge thanks to all our Parents Society and Guild volunteers, as well as those who made the time to attend the various events. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality of everyone we met and look forward to our next visit.
