Project Green - Year One
7th July 2025

Project Green is a year-long academic project through which students in LC3 have developed a range of oracy skills, whilst developing a better understanding of sustainability initiatives in College. As they have prepared for a final pitch of their idea to improve sustainability, they have also learned about the importance of clarity, charisma and confidence in an effective presentation. Students have also attended a series of oracy workshops on themes such as interview skills, overcoming stage fright, voice projection and enunciation.

The aims of the project were to improve students' oral communication and presentation skills, develop confidence in oral communication, develop team-working skills, raise students' awareness of global and local issues and understand how solutions require complex decision making. Every student contributed to their group’s presentation and academic poster and winning teams from each class presented in the Project Green Final, where the team of Violet, Margot, Raisa and Emerald came through as the winners (see their poster below).

We are indebted to visiting speakers from the community who enriched the project through their personal experiences of effecting change in sustainability and to Mr Nick Dyson, Deputy Principal at The Ladies’ College Guernsey, who made a guest appearance as a judge in the Project Green final.

Hear from some of our LC3 students that took part
“It showed me how important it is to listen, stay organised, and rely on each other to get things done.”

“Having a workshop with Reverend Rosie showed me how presenting in the PH is scary to everyone, but is a fear that can be overcome.”
LC3 Student
“I particularly enjoyed the creative side of the project, like designing the poster and working with my group to come up with ideas. I also liked learning about real-world issues and thinking about how we can make a difference.”
LC3 Student
“Now if you tell me to present on the spot I would be more than willing to do it.”
LC3 Student
“I particularly enjoyed the time that we got to develop our posters and work on our presentations. The best part was that our group was able to use our presenting skills and creative minds and win both the proposal final and the best poster.”
LC3 Student
“During Project Green, I developed important oracy and communication skills. I learned how to speak clearly and confidently when presenting to an audience, and how to listen respectfully to others’ ideas during group discussions.”
