On the 15th January, CLC hosted a Royal Society of Chemistry sponsored Family Lecture for SFC chemistry students and members of the public.
Professor of Science Communication, Adam Hart, who is well known for his work with the BBC as well as for research into insect biology, spoke about the topic of insect pheromones and debunked the myths about the role of pheromones in attracting a mate.
Professor Hart also discussed the relationships between insect behaviour and scent compounds, explored the organic chemistry of pheromones, and delighted the audience with some familiar insect smells which are also found in some of our favourite sweets! Our thanks to Professor Hart, and to Tim Harrison of ChemLabS, University of Bristol for supporting this event.
