SFC French Film Day
13th November 2025

On Thursday 6th November, 80 Sixth Form pupils from across Cheltenham and Gloucester came to CLC to take part in our third Journée d’étude du cinéma contemporain français.

We watched two films that complement our A Level students’ set film, La Haine. In the morning, we watched Entre les murs (The Class), which shows a year in the life of a lively multi-racial class in a school in the 20th arrondissement of Paris.

After a delicious steak-frites in the Bayshill Court Dining Room, we watched Les Misérables, which portrays the tense relationship between the police and young people in a high-rise estate on the eastern outskirts of Paris.

Both films were much appreciated by the students and led to discussion (in French) on how the individual characters reacted to their circumstances and on the themes of poverty, exclusion and possible solutions to these deep-seated problems
