On 15th May, 12 enthusiastic SFC students rolled up their sleeves and dived into the art of sushi making. The challenge was to craft sushi rolls with sticky rice as neatly as possible, without getting their hands covered in rice! This event continues to be a highlight of the IB Japanese class, blending culinary skills with cultural appreciation.
Today, I had the exciting opportunity to learn how to make maki sushi with Mrs Takahashi! The session began with placing a sheet of nori (seaweed) on a traditional bamboo rolling mat. Next, I carefully spread sticky rice over the nori, doing our best to keep it neat and even. After choosing my favourite fillings, I rolled everything up using the mat.
It was a fun experience that made me feel more connected to Japanese culture, especially since the sushi tasted so good!
