SFC1 IB AND A LEVEL FRENCH CHEESE TASTING
9th June 2023

On Thursday 18th May, the SFC1 (Year 12) IB and A Level classes had the unique opportunity to experience a cheese tasting session. The cheese tasting allowed us to nurture our interests of the 'Patrimoine Français', which we have learnt about in lessons, as well as expand our general knowledge of French culinary heritage - cheese being an integral part of French culture!

Coupled with the traditional French music in the background of the classroom, the cheese tasting experience began with a quick English to French word matching exercise to introduce the group to appropriate vocabulary relating to cheese. We were then able to use this vocabulary to discuss each cheese we tasted in order to describe its outer appearance, texture and taste.

We went on to try a selection of six different cheeses accompanied by fresh bread, French butter, and the choice of alcohol-free wine or (French) Volvic water. Simultaneously, we discussed the origin of each cheese we tasted. The selection of cheese extended from goat cheese (the mildest) all the way to Roquefort (VERY strong!)

Ultimately, the cheese tasting session was a unique experience allowing us to extend our vocabulary for our appropriate courses, while fully immersing ourselves into the French culture.

More importantly, we got to eat some amazing cheese!
