Just after half term, we held our first LC2 ‘Whispers from the Past’ event, styled on the very successful ‘Murder Mystery’ we hold annually for LC1s. The experience was based on the Principals of CLC – eleven in total since we were established, including Ms Jardine-Young. It proved to be another wonderful opportunity for us to make happy memories at CLC.
Day Students were invited for supper in boarding houses, and afterwards, everyone arrived in high spirits for an evening of great fun. College was presented in a suitably spooky atmosphere, and the Marble Corridor and Dorothea Beale’s bust were lit up accordingly, with shadows and silhouettes adding to the atmosphere.
We commenced with a scavenger hunt when groups tore around College in a race to collect clues about former principals. LC2s were tested further during a quiz, linking former principals to world events. One Principal, Miss Hampshire, was brought to life through the reflections of a former pupil, Ms Carolyn Roberson, who joined us too.
Something else that highlighted Miss Hampshire was the Candlelit Ghost Story held in the Main Library… we huddled together on cushions on the floor while Mr Todd, the former Head of Library Services, recounted a ghostly tale. The lamp going out, and things shifting in the Library all contributed to the thrill of being in the library so late, surrounded by those whispers from the past.
Finally, we convened in Lower Hall to learn the Charleston, the culmination of a fabulous evening – definitely to be repeated!
