Dance

Last week, 18 girls performed in the Gloucestershire Schools Dance Festival at the Cheltenham Town Hall on Tuesday 27th January. Congratulations to all those involved, and many thanks to the teachers for supporting them in another chance to perform on stage.

Special congratulations to Marta and Nonni (SFC1), who have performed in this festival for four years running!

Swimming

Last week, our junior team raced against Dean Close Prep and returned to competition in great form, showing real determination throughout. Their efforts resulted in eight new personal best times, along with a very special highlight, Georgia (LC2) breaking a 14-year-old age-group record in the 50m breaststroke. Well done, all!

Fencing

Congratulations to Antonia, who won the West Midlands British Youth Championships qualifier last weekend!

Squash

Well done to our KS5 National Schools Squash team for reaching stage two of the championships. They went to High Wycombe on Wednesday and had very close matches against High Wycombe and Petr Symmonds School.

Tennis

Congratulations to Leanne (LC3) for winning the U14 grade 5 LTA tennis tournament at Oxstalls on Sunday. She achieved victory by beating the No. 1 seed convincingly. It is nice to see her hard work in training paying off.

Badminton

Last week concluded the Junior and Senior House Badminton events. Well done to all who played! The standard was high, and more importantly, it was all played in great spirits.

Junior Winners – Farnley Lodge

Senior Winners – St. Austin’s

Equestrian

Our Polo players have started their lessons again after the Christmas break and have all had fun and improved their skills significantly. We are looking forward to putting teams together to play some matches.

Hannah (UC4) continues to impress the judges in the National Schools Winter Dressage League. So far, she has won four classes, placed second in another three, and is amassing an impressive amount of points for the Championships.

Last week, Poppy (LC1) had an outstanding day at Allens Hill Schools Showjumping. At her first competition representing CLC, not only did Poppy win one class and place second in another, but she also qualified for the National Schools Championships and the Grassroots Regional Championships!

Netball

On Wednesday afternoon, all pupils in LC1 and LC2 proudly represented CLC in netball matches against Bromsgrove. With a focus on possession, the teams worked hard to make accurate passes and move the ball effectively down the court. Players showed increasing confidence in maintaining control under pressure, using space well and supporting each other to retain possession. It was a fantastic learning opportunity for pupils to put into practice the skills and concepts they have been focusing on in lessons.

On Friday evening, the U14 and U16 netball teams travelled to Bournemouth to compete in the South West Regional Tournament, facing the top schools from across the region. Since qualifying from the County round in November, both teams have shown outstanding dedication to training and matches, going above and beyond to prepare themselves for the tough competition ahead. This hard work was clear to see on the day as all players displayed some of their best netball to date. Throughout the tournament, the pupils showed great grit, resilience and positivity, learning from every match while keeping spirits high. With fantastic support from parents and family, both teams represented CLC with pride and did the school extremely proud.

Rowing

CLC alumnus Jess Smiles (Class of 2014) has achieved something truly remarkable, breaking the world record for a female pair rowing across the Atlantic in the World’s Toughest Row. Jess and her teammate rowed an incredible 3,000 miles in just 38 days, 12 hours and 18 minutes, smashing the previous women’s pairs world record by almost a full week. Battling brutal conditions, exhaustion, and the sheer scale of the Atlantic, the pair showed extraordinary resilience, teamwork, and determination, an outstanding achievement, an epic challenge, and an inspirational feat.

Huge congratulations to both rowers on a phenomenal performance!
