Tennis

On Saturday 5th July, seven students took a trip to the All England Tennis Club where Wimbledon is played. We had Court Two tickets and saw a fantastic schedule of tennis. We also enjoyed browsing in the shops and looking at the outside courts to spot other famous tennis players. We left the day feeling inspired and looking forward to playing some great tennis ourselves this year.

Triathlon

In mid-August, Miss Nimmo took on the personal challenge of stepping up in distance to race the T100 London Triathlon. The event comprised a 2km swim, an 80km bike, and an 18km run in hot, sunny conditions. Aiming for a time of around five hours, twice as far as she had ever raced before, she was delighted to finish in 4 hours 44 minutes. This not only exceeded her own expectations but secured her 2nd place in her age group, qualifying her for the World Age Group Championships in Qatar this December.

Water polo

This summer, Luisa (SFC1) represented Malta at the U16s Women’s European Championships, which was held in Istanbul, in the first week of July. The Maltese team ranked 14th and Luisa managed to get her name on the scoreboard.

Luisa was then called up to prepare for the U18 Women’s European Championships. To our great delight, she made the final team selection and represented Malta in the U18 European Championships, which took place in Malta, from 31st August to 7th September. This was a fantastic opportunity to play in an international competition in front of a home crowd. The Maltese team was mainly made up of U16 players, so they were relatively young compared to their opponents. They won three out of their six games, securing 14th place in the older age group.

Malta finished in 14th place which was quite an achievement given their small talent pool.

Congratulations to Luisa (SFC1) and her teammates, who played superbly, showing wonderful team spirit and resilience.

Hockey

Alice (UC4) was selected by Bristol University Talent Academy for the Nottingham England Hockey Cup and went on to become joint top Bristol scorer, despite being a LC3 in an event that she would normally only have been selected for next summer.

This weekend saw us hosting our annual triangular with Collegiate School and Royal Grammar School (RGS) Worcester. Back to back matches on a warm afternoon helped dust off the cobwebs. The girls who had attended Pre-season Training really showed the value of the skills they had developed with various coaches including GB International, Ben Marsden. The U18B hit the ground running with two wins, with many SNR hockey debuts and some fabulous team goals. The U18A’s grew in confidence and connections with two very tight losses. Hockey has to very quickly hit its stride in September, with all our national qualification tournaments falling in the first five weeks of term.

Equestrian

Lots of pupils have been training and competing during the summer, with great progress and success throughout.  Highlights include:

  • Issy (UC5) winning the BE100 competition at Chard on her new pony Mary. Issy will be aiming for international competitions on Darwin and Mary before the end of the season.

  • Emmiline (SFC2) has qualified for Nationals (under 25s) in dressage and placed 18th and 8th in the UK for her dressage to music.

Netball

170 pupils from LC1 to SFC2 attended internal netball training on Saturday afternoon. The courts at Well Place were buzzing, as it was a brilliant opportunity for players to get back on court, focus on skills and enjoy some match play against one another.
