Sport Roundup 13th February
12th February 2026

Football

Last week, both senior football teams produced strong performances against Cheltenham College despite tough weather conditions. The Second team held their shape well and earned a solid 0–0 draw, showing great discipline and teamwork. The First team played in a fast, exciting match that ended 1–1, with excellent energy and attacking play throughout.

A big thank you to all the girls from other sports who stepped in to support the teams - your help was invaluable!

Basketball

The Senior basketballers travelled to Gloucester for a return fixture against Sir Thomas Rich’s School. Through excellent defending, the team turned over possession and, with each quarter, as confidence grew, converted their chances into well-taken baskets, winning 33-6.

Well done, all!

Badminton

On Saturday, we had a fantastic afternoon fixture against Malvern College. It was great to see some of our younger students making their debut.

Everyone should be proud of their games, as it was tough, but there were many great results and scores!

Hockey

In Hockey, the pupils showed resilience in the wet conditions and didn't give up despite a challenging first half. We stayed competitive throughout. The U18s fought hard with only 10 players for periods of the game, holding on to a 2-2 draw against Downe House School.

Well done, all!

Volleyball

A great afternoon of matches against Malvern College. It was an opportunity for some of our younger player to play in their first volleyball match. All the games were really exciting and played in great spirit!

Netball

On Wednesday afternoon, six teams across LC1 and LC2 took part in a friendly round of fixtures against Cheltenham College Prep. It proved to be a valuable coaching opportunity, with players growing in confidence and performance as the afternoon progressed. There was clear improvement in movement, timing and decision-making, with teams linking passes more effectively through the court and showing greater awareness in both attack and defence.

Saturday afternoon continued the momentum at Well Place. Two senior teams from Christ College and seven teams, ranging from Year 7 to Year 10, from Cathedral School, Llandaff, enjoyed a full afternoon of fixtures. The courts were full of energy, teamwork and enthusiasm, highlighting the strength and depth of netball across all age groups. Players demonstrated strong communication, resilient defending and creative attacking play. The positive attitude and willingness to learn were evident throughout, making the fixtures both competitive and developmental.

Lacrosse

On Saturday, despite the waterlogged grass pitches, the U12s played a modified version of the Olympics using the Sports Hall while the Astros hosted 10-a-side games for the Seniors, U14s and U13s.

We recorded some fantastic results across all age groups. The U14s secured a win in the first quarter, to make it a draw at halftime and a 7-4 win to finish! The U13s were fantastic across all quarters, while the Seniors put on an extraordinary performance against a variety of opponents in the Cheltenham Lacrosse Challenge.

Thank you to all the players involved on the day for their excellent response to the changes in schedules and absolute commitment to their sport despite the unfriendly weather conditions.

Rowing

Last week, House Rowing was filled with excitement, competitive racing, and fantastic teamwork. Teams took on the formidable 2K test in a fast-paced relay format. Every competitor gave it their all, making for some incredibly close and thrilling racing, with results in some cases decided on the very last stroke.

In the junior houses, Eversleigh claimed first place, followed closely by Glenlee, with Farnley taking third by a razor-thin margin of just 0.1 seconds. In the senior houses, St Mags took the win, with St Austins finishing second, only 0.3 seconds behind, and Glenlee securing third.

Well done to everyone who took part, it was a brilliant evening of rowing and competition!

On Saturday, rowers headed to Wycliffe Head for a highly competitive race over 4,500 metres, navigating bridges, sweeping bends, and challenging conditions throughout the course. The J18 coxless quad of Nadia, Dagmar, Alice and Florrie (SFC1) did an outstanding job managing the windy course, particularly impressive after breaking their steering while heading up to the start. The J15 coxed quad of Nina, Chloe, Siya, Connie and Georgina (UC4) also delivered a fantastic performance, competing in their very first water race. The girls produced excellent times of 22 minutes and 24 minutes, respectively and showed great determination despite the wet, cold, and windy conditions. Amazing work from everyone involved!

Mrs Bassett-Jones held a sweet and chocolate sale in the GCR in support of Save the Rhinos. She is taking on the huge challenge of running the London Marathon in April to raise money for this fantastic charity, which works tirelessly to conserve rhinos and protect them from poaching and habitat loss.
