On Wednesday we hosted St Mary’s Calne for six-a-side tournament. The U12 and U13 teams used their first lesson and club themes, of finding space and attacking when bowling, to put in strong displays across the board. In the evening a combined U15 and U14 team well and truly kicked off the cricket season, the noise from Farnley field echoed through the neighbourhood!
Well done to Daphne and Edi (LC3) for their epic batting combination and for scoring the final boundary to secure the win. We have entered the Chance to Shine Super 8s competitions for U12 to U15 teams. To be considered for selection you must be attending cricket club.
With eight schools competing, the Cheltenham & District Schools Championships event was packed with atmosphere and exciting racing throughout. Across all age groups, CLC swimmers delivered outstanding performances, with numerous personal bests, podium finishes, and brilliant one-two results in both individual and relay events.
Special mentions go to our standout performers including LC1 Georgia, SFC1 Caitlin, LC3 Chizzy, UC4 Ellie, and LC3 Ariana, as well as all those whose relay efforts secured vital points. Thanks to everyone's collective determination and team spirit, College not only won several age group shields but also retained the overall Top Girls Schools title – amazing!
Ten swimmers represented CLC at the World Schools Swimming Championships at the London Olympic Pool over the weekend. With 16 different countries and nearly 500 swimmers competing, it was fantastic to see how well our team rose to the occasion - setting an impressive 23 new personal bests between them. Notably, LC1 Izzy knocked an incredible 18 seconds off her 200m IM time.
There were 20 appearances in finals, along with several podium finishes: UC4 Ellie and LC3 Jess both claimed bronze medals, the U18 relay teams secured a silver and a gold, and SFC1 Caitlin achieved two silvers and a gold in the 50m Fly. Ellie capped off the meet by being selected for the Nations Cup final relay, representing England, and helping the team bring home the gold.
An amazing weekend all round - these few highlights don’t do it full justice. Huge congratulations to all involved.
This weekend (9-11th May) saw the start of our dance entries in the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts at the Town Hall. All the girls performed beautifully and conducted themselves with professionalism.
The day started with SFC1 Lexie, SFC1 Abi and UC5 Audrey performing a Spanish style trio. UC5 Xuan Xuan wowed the audience with her ballet solo and was awarded first place. SFC1 Lexie was next to gain a first place in her ballet solo class.
The afternoon finished with two beautiful ballet solos from SFC1 Penelope and SFC1 Lauren. Lauren was awarded a 1st place with a spectacular score of 94! SFC1 Lexie was back at the Town Hall again on Sunday to perform another three solos: Tap, Lyrical Modern and Modern – well done Lexie!
On Tuesday during senior field, we welcomed Cheltenham College who brought four teams over to play. A big, big thank you to those who stepped out of their comfort zone to play their first Tennis match for the school. Well done!
It was impressive to see students upping their game and getting some fantastic scores against the opposition. On Wednesday the U12 and U13 teams had their first fixture against St Mary’s Calne. It was a great opportunity to put the previous work on consistency and accuracy into competitive situations. There were some great games through the afternoon with all players showing progress.
Isabella J (LC3) basketball team (Stroud Sharks) won the final of the YBL basketball league on Saturday. They won 66-34. Well done Isabella.
