The Outstanding Achievement award recognised Xuan Xuan (SFC2) for her remarkable achievements in the world of Ballet. The Team of the Year was awarded to the Under 16 Regional Netball Team for their commendable season, achieving a regional placing in the South West and the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Gabbie Lucas for her contribution to sport at College throughout her time at CLC.
Six girls across LC3 to SFC2 took their RAD Ballet Exam on Friday 20th March. They have all worked extremely hard this term towards these exams, and we have no doubt that they will achieve fantastic results!
Our term finale took place at the Independent Boarding School Relays at Downe House School, where it was fantastic to showcase our strength and depth by fielding two teams in each age group. Demonstrating wonderful team spirit, the swimmers produced excellent performances across the board, achieving 14 new personal bests and securing medals in multiple events. These collective efforts saw CLC finish an impressive 2nd overall, a wonderful way to conclude the term.
This high-tempo return fixture featured players from every single year group at CLC! After falling behind early to Cheltenham College, CLC grew into the game, finding their rhythm and capitalising on attacking opportunities. A committed team performance saw every player contribute, securing a fifth win from five and an unbeaten season.
A great fixture with Cheltenham College, with 16 girls across LC2 – SFC2 taking part. Lots of great match play, which really showed how much the girls had improved over the last two terms. Annie (SFC1) went away this weekend to represent Gloucestershire County in the adult event. She played really well over the weekend and won four out of six matches, which is fantastic!
It's been a great week for tennis, especially with the sun making an appearance! On Monday, we held the venue stage of the Play Your Way To Wimbledon competition. Our winners were Leanne (LC3) in U14s Girls singles, and Allegra and Ferial (SFC1) in the U18 doubles. All three students now advance to the County stage, which will take place at the end of June. They will then battle their way against the other venue winners across the county for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to play at the All England Wimbledon Club. Thank you to everyone who took part in the event. Without you, the event and opportunities would not have happened.
On Saturday, we had the final day of our Level 1 Tennis Coaching Course for our seniors. They have worked hard on both the theory, practical and volunteering elements. You may have seen some of them at tennis clubs over the past term. There is a recognised national shortage of female tennis coaches, so it's fantastic that, as a school, we can tackle this inequality and create role models for our younger students.
On Sunday, we had 12 students taking part in an external LTA Tennis tournament, which was based at Well Place. We had a Grade 4 and a Grade 6 tournament running alongside each other. We had some fantastic results across the board. Serena (UC5) came runner-up in the U12 singles, Ines (SFC1) runner-up in U14 singles, and Kat (LC3) took home the gold medal. In the U16, Fira (LC3) played Seraphina (LC3) in the finals, and it was a great match to watch. Seraphina won 7-6 in a close tiebreak! Well done to Izumi (LC3), Annika (LC3), Tasha (LC2) and Jemmi (LC1), who all played in their first LTA tournament.
Over the weekend, Ferial (SFC1) went to Lincolnshire to play for her county in the County Cup. On Friday, they beat Gloucestershire 5-4, on Saturday, they beat Oxfordshire 6-3, and on Sunday, they lost 2-7 to the North of Scotland. Ferial won four out of six of her matches, which consisted of singles and doubles. This is a fantastic achievement – well done!
On Saturday, we had the Cadbury’s Tournament of the Year! We had 18 students taking part in this event, which is a record number for our school, as well as many who had never played a squash match before. Players came from other Squash clubs as well as from Wycliffe and Cheltenham College School. Our students’ etiquette on and off the court was impeccable, and we were blown away by the improvement in their standards.
Well done to everyone, but a special mention goes to Josephine (LC3) for winning the U15 Grade B competition, Ellie (LC3) for coming runner-up in a close final and Suri (LC3), who came runner-up in the U15 A-grade event.
We had a fabulous finish to the season with our night lights varsity fixture vs Little Flower Academy from Canada. The game was end-to-end, with some fabulous goals being scored by both teams and played in the most amazing atmosphere.
Saturday saw a great afternoon against Downe House and Cheltenham Junior Hockey Club, where the U12 and U13 teams were victorious. The U15s had a purposeful pre-tour run-through before we jet off to the USA.
CLC hosted the U13 and U12 South West six-a-side Tournaments on Wednesday and Thursday - a showcase event of 500 young people playing sport in the spring sunshine across the two days.
Congratulations to our CLC teams, who earned places in the Championship tier after strong performances in the morning round robins. The U12 achieved a top-eight finish with a spot in the afternoon quarterfinals. Thank you to everyone who came to support, especially Mr Parker, Mr Dodds and Ms Ralph. A fantastic finish for the lacrosse season!
Friday night saw the annual varsity fixture for the senior netball team against Wycliffe College, a highly contested game from start to finish. The match was a brilliant showcase of netball, with sharp passing, relentless defence, and moments of real flair that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Beyond the scoreline, it was about the experience for our SFC2 leavers, who had the chance to be part of something truly special. The atmosphere was electric, with a packed crowd of home and away supporters creating an incredible buzz. It is a match they will no doubt remember for many years to come.
On Saturday morning, four teams across the U12 and U13 age groups travelled to Haberdashers’ Monmouth. As their final game of the season, the players put into practice the netball concepts they have been focusing on all season, including sharp passing, effective movement off the ball, and strong defensive marking. In the afternoon, the U14, U15 and senior teams took part in some well-matched fixtures at home against Habberdashers Monmouth. The games were played at a high intensity, with players demonstrating excellent court awareness and well-timed feeds into the circle. Their control of possession and consistent defensive pressure highlighted their development, finishing the season with confident performances.
Regina (UC5) was part of the Gloucestershire Team on Sunday to beat Worcestershire and Herefordshire 5-0 at Cleeve Hill, with Regina winning her game very convincingly 7&6. Well done, Regina!
