Dance

Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts

The success of the girls continued this week with Zaria (LC3), Bella and Olynn (UC4) performing wonderfully in the solo classes and were joined by Bianca (LC3) in the trio class on Monday.

Yolanda (LC1) and Joanna (LC2) each performed a solo and together a duet - congratulations to Yolanda who placed 1st in her solo.

All the girls have worked extremely hard in preparing for the Festival and had a wonderful experience. LC1 Yolanda and SFC1 Lauren returned to the Town Hall on Thursday evening to collect their trophies for achieving the highest marks in their ballet solos within their age groups. Lauren returned again on Friday evening to perform in the Young Dancer of the Year final.

Well done everybody!

Tennis

Some brilliant attacking tennis was on display in a convincing win for the U13 & U12s V Clifton College on Saturday morning. It was great to see them remembering their court positions and confidently intercepting at the net.

Likewise, the U15s and U14s dominated against St Edward’s, Oxford in the afternoon and each pair combined well to outwit their opponents.

Back at home, we had St Edward's Oxford over to Well Place where we managed to field three teams against their seniors. We were fortunate enough to be able to utilise some of our younger talent in LC1 and LC2 to challenge themselves, whilst helping our seniors battle it out against St Edward's. The standard was evenly matched throughout the three teams, with lots of close rallies and scores, some wins and some losses.

On Sunday morning we held our annual U14 and U18 Rosebowl competition. The weather was perfect, and the standard was extremely impressive across both events. In U18, Arabella (SFC1) played Luna (SFC1) in an epic final which could have gone either way. Congratulations to Arabella who clinched the win 10-8 in the final championship tiebreak. In the U14s, a round robin format was played. Seraphina (LC2) came runner up and Maddie (LC2) won the title. Well done to all who took part. It was a delight to watch everyone supporting and encouraging each other.

Rowing

We had an awesome day of racing at Worcester Regatta. A huge congratulations to Nadia, who stormed to victory in her race, winning by an impressive four lengths. Full of power and precision, Nadia built a commanding lead and maintained control from start to finish.

Delphine and Florrie also delivered a strong performance, showcasing excellent technique and keeping their strokes long and strong throughout the race. Despite their efforts, they narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals by just three-quarters of a length. In a testament to their tough competition, the crew that beat them went on to win the event.

A special mention goes to Coco and Sophia, who made their Regatta debut. They put in a fantastic effort in a race that was almost too close to call. Although they were edged out by just one length, their opponents also went on to win their category - an encouraging sign for Coco and Sophia’s future potential. Overall, an amazing day of racing, full of effort, determination, and exciting promise for the future. Well done to all!

Athletics

Last week was a very busy one for our athletes. Monday’s thunder didn’t stop the action, as events were swiftly moved indoors, leading to an exciting three-way meet between Cheltenham College Prep, Dean Close Prep, and our LC1 and LC2 pupils. Well done to all who took part - you rose to the new challenge superbly.

On Friday, the Cheltenham Schools Championships took place. Although results are still to come through, it was wonderful to see our 16 performers approach their events with such determination. The week was rounded off with a head-to-head fixture against King's Worcester. Once again, our athletes showed great determination and a willingness to try different events. All are to be commended for their efforts.

Badminton

On Saturday, Gloucestershire Badminton hosted a community doubles competition. With over 30 players competing, there were some excellent games and CLC gained silver and bronze medals.

Lacrosse

The lacrosse day trip to The Fly was a great day out. Students had a skills session with Team Forge and watched fast-paced lacrosse played by the best in the game, many of them looking to represent GB in the 2028 Olympics.

Cricket

The cricket pitches were alive with action on Saturday as we welcomed local opponents, King’s Gloucester. The CLC teams were put to work with setting a field that would pressurise their opponents, reduce boundaries and adapt to the live game scenario.

It was superb to see teams putting this into action and collaborating to work out how best to adjust the fielders' positions. Over 700 runs were scored by the CLC batters – a huge well done to those involved in creating a fantastic buzz on Saturday.

Golf

Five golfers headed to the Gloucestershire Schools Golf Championship.

Congratulations to Regina (UC4) for finishing 2nd and qualifying for the Regional Championships. She also finished 3rd in the Gloucestershire Ladies County Championships. This is a fantastic achievement as she was competing against some extremely experienced adults. Regina also had a hole-in-one during the qualifying rounds of this tournament!

It was an extremely hot day, so the golfers did very well to play some fantastic golf.

Guild Matches – Hockey, Lacrosse & Netball

It was wonderful to see current students and leavers of all ages come together for great matches! Guild hockey welcomed back some top players from a number of different generations of former students who took on a very strong CLC side for a 3-3 draw, with Guild equalising with the final play of the game.

We also had fabulous Lacrosse and Netball fixtures which were competitive yet fun for all.
