Tuesday saw the first round of the Cheltenham Challenge Cup against Cheltenham College and Dean Close. It was fantastic to see how well our swimmers raced, securing a strong number of first and second places and putting the team in an excellent position for the second round in the spring.
A special mention goes to Audrey (SFC1), who set a new age-group record in the breaststroke, and to Michelle (SFC1), who lowered her own backstroke record remarkably, the one she set only last week.
These two outstanding achievements truly capped off a wonderful night of racing.
Well done to all!
The U14 Netball team were outstanding as they secured qualification for Regionals after a challenging 10-team round-robin county tournament. They demonstrated resilience and quality throughout, winning seven matches, drawing two and losing only one.
The team produced countless ‘wow’ moments, from their dynamic movement down court and seamless collaboration within units to the crucial turnovers created through relentless defensive pressure.
Their composure in the circle and exceptional shooting accuracy proved decisive, rounding off a brilliant all-round performance. Every player stepped up with confidence, showing maturity beyond their years, and their positive team spirit shone through in every game.
This achievement is a testament to their hard work, unity and unwavering determination to keep improving. They will now be joining the U16 in Bournemouth at Regionals in January.
On Wednesday evening, during the senior netball club, the U16 regional squad played in a friendly against the U19 regional team from Sir Tommy Rich. Using the same tournament-style format they will face at regionals, the fixture gave both teams a great chance to test new combinations across the court.
Despite the age and experience difference, the U16 stayed composed and showed real progress across all quarters, making this an ideal preparation match for the upcoming regional tournament in January.
Throughout the week, we held Emily Sumaria Memorial Fixtures across lots of age groups in memory of Emily, who was a former student at both CLC and Cheltenham College. The fixtures culminated in the first team match, where former CLC Head of Hockey (Lucy McNulty) offered some wonderful reflections on Emily’s life and the power of sport. Often, sport is about so much more than just the game – it’s about all the amazing and powerful values we can experience and embody. This year, the cup went to Cheltenham College.
Tuesday night saw the U13A go to Tier One West Regional Finals for the first time Mr Padley can remember. We had a lovely stay overnight and were well-prepped for the tournament ahead. The group stages went down to the final match, where CLC won a short corner on the final whistle and scored to send us through to the semi-finals of the plate; 1-1 at full time meant penalty shuffles, and Ava, Mia and Tasha (LC2) scored with Melissa (LC2) making an exceptional save to send us through to the final. What a rollercoaster as we went 1-0 down but scored seconds later and then took the lead with a few minutes to go. Another great save from Melissa gave us the win.
Well done, girls!
