Sport Roundup 3rd October
30th September 2025

We’ve had another brilliant week of success across sports. Read on for an overview of this week’s swimming, tennis, golf, netball and badminton highlights.

Swimming

Our three age-group squads took a huge step forward, performing superbly at this week’s Regionals. The South West is a real hotbed of talent when it comes to swimming and the day was buzzing with competitive energy.

The Juniors, Georgia (LC2), Izzy (LC2), Ellie (LC1) and Marcella (LC1), kicked things off in the Freestyle relays, smashing their target time by an impressive 3½ seconds to finish in fourth place, while the Inters, Chizara, Jess, Ariana (UC4) and Karen (LC3), obliterated their mark by five seconds. Four of the Seniors, Anna (SFC2), Michelle (SFC1), Audrey (SFC1), and Midori (UC5), went sub-30, with Caitlin (SFC2) leading off in a 28, to take 2½ seconds off their target time.

The momentum carried into the Medley relays. The Juniors set the tone, with individual improvements across the board. The Inters showed real grit, dipping under the 2:20 mark and lowering their best by three seconds. Finally, the Seniors closed out the afternoon in style, clocking a superb 2:10 for sixth place.

Well done to our squads and each member for their outstanding performances. We’ll soon find out if these amazing results have secured us a Top-24 National Ranking and a place at the National Finals, fingers crossed!

Tennis

Leanne (LC3) had a very exciting EXEAT weekend, winning her first LTA Grade 4 tournament, the North & Midlands West Tour in the U14 Girls Singles event. What a brilliant start to CLC, well done Leanne!

Golf

On Tuesday 23rd September, we played the first golf match of this academic year on our home course at Lilley Brook against St Edward’s School, Oxford. Teams of eight, played over 12 holes, with close results in many of the head-to-head pairings. The CLC golfers put in great effort and although St Edward’s School won (5-3), our players all acquitted themselves superbly, what a great preparation for the next match.

Netball

The U16 team qualified for regionals after an outstanding performance at the county Challenge Competition on Tuesday, with both teams winning six out of their seven matches! CLC faced Farmor's School, in their eight and final game, where pupils showed incredible resilience, grit and determination, battling for every turnover and refusing to let their opposition gain the upper hand. In a nail-biting finish, they held their composure to achieve a two-goal victory, securing a second place and a spot at Regionals. What an incredible start to the season for this team, well done to all players!

Badminton

The Senior Badminton Team had an exciting fixture against Cheltenham College with some great and very close games. Some students had their very first fixture and it was a really positive experience overall.
