28th September 2023

U16 County Netball Tournament

Congratulations to the U16 Netball Team who came third in the county tournament narrowly missing qualification to Regionals by one goal. The team rose to the occasion and played superbly all afternoon in some very wet conditions. We look forward to watching this team in action again very soon.

Ski Racing

The Ski Team had a great start to the season racing at Gloucester Dry Slope in the Summer League. This was an open race for ski club racers with a mix of children and adults so was extremely competitive.

Each of the CLC girls completed two slalom races through full gates in the morning and then based on their times were grouped into three head to head races in the afternoon. Everyone had a quicker second run in the morning session as they gained confidence. The head to head competitions were really exciting as the girls had to find the right balance between skiing aggressively but with enough control to ski efficiently round each gate.

Thanks to Cameron and Waka for helping to lead and organise their team mates.

Lacrosse Welsh Rally Tournament September 2023

The Welsh Rally is always a great way to start the lacrosse season. The tournament style is similar to the end of season National Schools Lacrosse Championships which allows players, coaches and spectators alike to see sparks of what is possible and come March, allows everyone the ability to reflect back and identify the progress made since September.

It was a day filled with close score lines as well as incredible levels of learning and progress made in each game. The attacking units were working to hold width and depth to create the necessary space to pass effectively, open dodging lanes and convert scoring opportunities.

County Badminton success

Annie (UC4) had an extremely tiring and competitive weekend playing in several events in the Gloucestershire Restricted Badminton tournament. Annie won the U18 girls singles comfortably beating her doubles partner. In the adult singles, she lost in the finals against the former commonwealth gold medalist and her coach. Despite the loss she played superbly. Annie also came runner up in the U18 girls doubles and consolation adult doubles.

Golf

On Friday, a team consisting of Regina, Emma and Tilly played in the first round of the Independent Schools Golf Cup. CLC were drawn against a very strong team of U18 Boys from Dean Close. CLC battled in the elements at Lilley Brook Golf Club, which included heavy rain and wind, but played very well. CLC lost 2-1 but every match was close. The team will now go into the plate competition.

On Sunday a group of CLC golfers played rounds to enable them to gain their Handicaps. They were accompanied by Miss Walton, Head of Golf.

Netball Teams trip to PGL

Sixty-three Lower College pupils went to PGL and had a brilliant time. The teams got to play loads of netball, competing in a tournament as well as having a great time engaging in the PGL activities including the giant swing, zip wire, rifle shooting and abseiling. After an eventful journey home, pupils returned to houses tired from a great weekend away.

Saturday Fixtures

Hockey - A busy day of hockey for CLC with a clear focus on possession for all year groups from LC1 to the 1st team. We had a fantastic morning hosting King’s School Gloucester with 30+ LC1s involved in a six team round robin. Great to see our new pupils playing with real tenacity and connectivity.

Lacrosse - Lower College took to the pitches for internal tournament play. It is always wonderful to introduce lacrosse to students who have never seen or played the game before. A huge well done to every participant who approached this opportunity with an open mind, tried something new and discovered that they can do it!
