Ten students from the CLC ski team travelled to Les Menuires in the Alps for ski race trip a week before Christmas to participate alongside three other schools, including Wycombe Abbey, in ski race training and competitive racing.
The team embarked on three days of racing including the slalom, giant slalom and finishing with the parallel slalom on the final day. It was fun staying in a hotel with the other teams and the location on the slopes made sure we could capitalise on the time available by being able to ski in, ski out. Lots of great memories were made and everyone made huge progress over the week and gained some great experience racing.
We are really proud of the girls’ efforts. Particular mention goes to Gabriella (UC4 / Year 10) who finished fourth in the giant slalom and Daphne (LC2 / Year 8) for finishing second in the slalom and fourth in the giant slalom.
Ski race training resumes in the Summer Term.
Huge congratulations to LC2 (Year 8) student Alice, who won at the Anglo Scottish Championships in Pila, Italy, on Monday 9th January. She was over four seconds quicker than the next U14 competitor in both runs! Alice has also heard recently that she has been selected to represent the GBR children’s team, which is a huge honour and a fantastic achievement.
We wish her well in her first competitions next week in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
SFC2 (Year 13) student, Elke, has been asked to represent the British Nordic Team at OPA Games in France this March. It’s a huge honour for her and we are very proud of her achievements.
Congratulations to Ella (LC3 / Year 9) who has been selected for the Severn Stars U18 squad.
Wendy (SFC2 / Year 13) competed in the Netherlands in an international show jumping competition representing China during the Christmas holiday. She won the CSI1 1.10m class and came second in the CSI1 1.15m with her horse, Dutch. Many congratulations on her success.
Ten CLC students took part in the LTA Tennis Leaders Award on Sunday held at CLC run by Miss Hodgetts: Congratulations to Aimee, Beth, Clara, Arissa, Gia, Charlotte, Izzy (all SFC1 / Year 12), Jemima (SFC2 / Year 13), Liv (LC3 / Year 9) and Lexi (UC5 / Year 11). They are now all qualified tennis leaders.
There have been plenty of teams in action across all sports and age groups. The lacrosse teams travelled to St Mary’s Calne for 6-aside tournament play, the hockey team faced Christ College and the netball squad had matches against Wycliffe College.
This weekend there are even more teams in action. A huge number of CLC girls will be competing in matches against Westonbirt, Clifton College, Godolphin, Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School and Cheltenham College to name just some of the opposition. There will be badminton, equestrian, hockey, lacrosse, netball and squash matches taking place over the weekend.
