We love to launch our Wellbeing Programme each year with great guest speakers, knowing that students value these occasions where we benefit from the experience and expertise of influencers and specialists whom we invite to College.
We were thrilled to welcome Dr Radha Modgil to address our UC and SFCs; as well as Dr Aric Sigman who spoke to our LC students. Both shared hopeful and uplifting messages that encouraged students to take proactive steps to protect and promote their wellbeing,
An NHS GP, author and broadcaster, Dr Radha Modgil is on a mission to empower anyone to take small but powerful steps to improve their quality of life. Radha is the medical expert and podcast co-host of BBC Radio 1’s Life Hacks, and also presented The Sex Education Show and Dying For Clear Skin.
An inspiring medic and energetic, trusted and creative voice for wellbeing, Radha believes that every individual is their own often untapped powerhouse of knowledge and experience. Her love for this work comes from a desire to connect people across the world by highlighting a universal human need for authentic wellbeing.
In the hour she spent with us, Dr Radha filled the PH with her warm and encouraging message, offering us strategies to find balance, build heathy habits and to employ strategies to manage when we need help or feel under strain.
Dr Aric Sigman’s message was a powerful encouragement to the LC students to protect their physical, emotional and academic wellbeing by avoiding the overuse and misuse of digital devices. Students were encouraged to establish healthy and safe screen habits.
Dr Sigman has published a number of peer-reviewed medical papers on this subject and is the author of the book Remotely Controlled. He is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on a Fit and Healthy Childhood and contributing author to its five recent reports on children’s mental health. He is a Chartered Biologist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and a Chartered Scientist awarded by the Science Council.
Dr Radha and Dr Sigman are among many invited speakers who enrich our experience here at CLC. They provide successful ways of reinforcing messages that families and teachers often wish to convey, and their personal stories and charisma have a powerful impact.
