On Friday 3rd March, we attended the Those Who Dare event where we met people working in a diverse range of careers. Each guest had interesting stories to tell, which explained their career paths, inspiration for choosing their current role and how they made decisions which impacted their work.
We were fortunate to be able to speak to people at different stages of their career, which gave us a broad picture of how it would be possible to develop one’s occupation to higher levels.
An exciting aspect of the event was having the chance to widen our professional knowledge of different careers that students are less likely to know about, such as a jewellery designer, nuclear regulator and illustrator.
It was especially compelling to discover the vast range of skills which were used in different jobs alongside academic qualifications, and how developing these skills was just as essential as a degree in order to excel in every occupation.
I found it inspiring to see success not as what society defined it as, but by people following their passions to create their own definitions of success.
