For a couple of weeks this summer College has lent a minibus to Eden Aid, who have partnered with the International Refugee Trust. They are co-ordinating and running weekly four-day round trips to Poland and going a short distance from the Ukrainian boarder, in order to deliver aid and transport Ukrainian refugees to their host families.
Three staff members, Sarah Clark, Leah Haynes and Mandy Allen, were extremely inspired when meeting with Eden Aid, to hand over the minibus, and have subsequently personally volunteered as drivers for this week's convoy.
They have been raising additional funds for Eden Aid via a Just Giving page. They also set up a donation hub in College Main Entrance, where other staff and members of our community have been donating urgently needed items, such as ready to eat food, first aid and medicines, toiletries, pet food, nappies, duvets and pillows, pushchairs and car seats, sleeping bags and tents, etc.
Eden Aid and our volunteer drivers, along with the CLC minibus, are now on their way back to the UK. Thanks to Eden aid for the photo below, showing Sarah and her co-driver Troels with their passengers.
Troels, from Eden Aid, said: “Your contribution has enabled us to bring these displaced people to a safe place and we have been lucky to have been joined by your colleagues who have been endlessly enthusiastic.”
Thank you to everyone in our community for your donations, to colleagues who organised the delivery of the minibus, to Mandy, Sarah and Leah for volunteering, and of course to the incredible Eden Aid.
With over 20 weeks of travelling, Eden Aid have moved 449 refugees to the UK, 56 dogs and 37 cats, and their outbound journeys are always packed with aid to be taken to stations near the Poland/Ukraine border.
