The Geography Department took SFC1 and UC4 Geographers to Hengistbury Head, Christchurch Bay in Dorset for their Physical Geography, data collection and coastal studies. The weather was fabulous and all students worked effectively as teams to gather data on coastal geomorphology.
The data proved the theory of longshore drift as the beach cross sectional areas increased from West to East. Students also measured the decreasing sediment size and increased roundness of sediment; indicating erosion along the spit due to attrition and abrasion. Well done everyone for your hard work on a very hot day and good luck with your coastal examinations next summer!
