Earlier this week, select UC4 pupils welcomed two magistrates to College in preparation for their Mock Trial, later this term. Read an overview from one of our students below.
On Tuesday, a group of us doing the Mock Trial in March met with two magistrates to help us prepare and answer some of our questions for the upcoming event. We were all very excited to meet them! We asked questions about our assigned roles and how they work in a court - it was interesting to gain more insight.
Afterwards, we talked about what they do in their roles as magistrates. We learnt that they have other jobs and that 95% of all court cases pass through magistrates in England and Wales. We played a few interactive games, learned about the severity of crimes and attempted to put them in order. After trying and only getting a few right, the magistrate fixed our earnest but dreadful efforts.
Overall, the session left us feeling more confident and ready for our Mock Trial!
