'Meet the Artist' workshop for Year 10 students
15th March 2023

Recently, UC4 (Year 10) Art students met with the SFC2 (Year 13) artists in the studio. They communicated and demonstrated techniques to us developed in their final pieces from their last project titled ‘Together and/or Apart’.

As a UC4 student beginning her journey towards an art examination, I have been given three titles to choose from, and it was very interesting to see the contrast in A Level students’ work based on the same string of words. They seemed to execute their projects in the most personal and thoughtful ways. To see how someone can genuinely put their ‘soul into their art’ was the most inspirational of all.

Candidates used different media – from intricate pen work to big plaster sculptures – and used our outstanding facilities in the Art Block through various printing techniques. You could see how different their colour, depth and story behind each piece was. Seeing how much support is given to Art students and their access to great resources has inspired me to pursue A Level Art at College.

This opportunity was eye opening, and I learned so much from the students. I asked many questions that correlated with my own work, which will no doubt improve my attitude and outcome at GCSE. They were all very enthusiastic about their art and were able to convey so much information about their work. I hope this experience is offered to UC4 students for years to come.
