Pupil Success at Worcester Competitive Arts Festival
19th April 2021

Congratulations to UC4 pupil Martha, who has been awarded the Worcester Arts Council Trophy for High Achievement in Drama at the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival. This accolade is awarded to the performer who has given an outstanding performance at the festival.

Martha was also awarded the Bertulis Trophy for Write and Speak a Poem, for being the overall winner of the five Write and Speak a Poem classes.

The festival took place virtually earlier this year, and the organisers are hoping to organise an online concert which will include Martha’s video performances.

Martha performed a range of prose and poetry, both modern and Shakespearian, which she filmed at home. Her biggest challenge was competing in a virtual event: “The hardest part was filming the performances, getting the lighting right and making sure there were no background noises. I had to record my Shakespeare monologue four times because of a rather overenthusiastic bird on the window sill outside. I’m looking forward to watching the concert and seeing how others approached the filming and virtual performing.”
