CLC x Jiyu Gakuen Exchange Programme: A Unique and Growing Opportunity
Japanese Student Exchange Programme
This year marks the third successful year of our exchange programme with Jiyu Gakuen in Tokyo. The programme continues to provide a rich cultural and educational experience for students on both sides.
This Summer Term, we were delighted to host two Japanese exchange students, Chihiro and Honoka, from Tokyo. Our SFC1 IB Japanese students thoroughly enjoyed welcoming native speakers into the school community and taking the opportunity to apply their language skills beyond the classroom, after just 10 months of learning Japanese. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to their dedication!
I enjoyed these two weeks because I got to experience a lot of things for the first time. Thank you to our buddies and all the kind classmates.

We extend our special thanks to Shreshtha and Annise (SFC1), who took on the role of 'buddies' and provided warm support throughout the visit.
In addition, a number of our Guild alumnae worked as English teaching assistants at Jiyu Gakuen. We look forward to announcing the successful candidate for the 2026-27 gap year placements.
The Gap year student will live in university accommodation in a beautiful suburb of Tokyo, experiencing daily life in Japan while gaining invaluable international work experience.
This study trip was a great experience. I learned a lot about English and British culture.

Through opportunities such as these, CLC students and Guild alumnae are not only able to apply their language skills in real-world contexts but also to develop confidence, independence, and a deep cross-cultural understanding that will benefit them for years to come.
The programme is open to all SFC2 students who are interested in undertaking a meaningful role abroad during their gap year.
It is a highly rewarding challenge that brings language learning to life beyond the classroom.
