German Exchange Week
German Exchange Week
This year marked the 16th anniversary of our exchange with Maria-Ward-Schule, Mainz, and we were delighted to welcome 12 German visitors to Cheltenham. The week was a tremendous success thanks to the enthusiasm, kindness, and positive involvement of so many members of our school community.
Students enjoyed countless opportunities to get to know one another, make new friends and improve their language skills. Through conversations, activities and shared experiences, they discovered quirky expressions, cultural habits and everyday life in each other's countries.
I really enjoyed the week because I got to understand how different Germany is from England in ways you usually wouldn't notice.
Eli (UC3)
Eli continued: I learned more everyday German phrases and had fun with new people. Visiting places in Cheltenham I hadn't been to before with Merle was super fun, and I'm really excited to go to Mainz in December!
Students found many similarities, including favourite chart music and free-time activities, while also exploring differences such as a typical German breakfast compared with a traditional English one.
The week was filled with laughter, curiosity and open-mindedness. Students developed their communication skills, gained confidence, and grew in their understanding and appreciation of another culture. Most importantly, the exchange fostered friendship, tolerance and respect.
The exchange was so fun, and it was really nice how we all bonded during bowling. Spending time with them, teaching them English slang, and them teaching us German slang was a great experience, and we all had a lot of fun together.
Seraphina (UC4)
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year's exchange such a success and cannot wait to see our new friends again when we visit Mainz this December.
