Gloucestershire Classical Association Lectures 2026

Throughout the year, students from UC4 to SFC2 - whether studying a Classical subject or simply interested in the ancient world - attended a series of lectures organised by the Gloucestershire branch of the Classical Association. 

Lecturers from university departments across the country delivered engaging talks on a wide range of topics, including Greek religion, women in Homer, Cicero’s Pro Roscio Amerino, and the decoration of Roman houses.

Highlights included exploring the anatomy of a herm (a column statue of the god Hermes), hearing about a newly published book by Classicist Emily Hauser on the portrayal of women, gaining detailed insight into an A Level set text from an Oxford professor, and learning about the stunning decorative schemes of houses in Pompeii. 

We are very grateful to the lecturers for their time in preparing these sessions and travelling to Cheltenham to share their expertise.
