History Olympiad European Champions 2026

History Olympiad European Champions 2026

Over the Half Term break, SFC1 students Chloe, Jonette and Cerys were crowned European Champions at the International History Olympiad in Berlin.

We travelled to Berlin to compete in the European Championships of the International History Olympiad after our historic victory as the first-ever all-female team to win the UK National Competition in March!

Throughout the weekend, there were numerous events including both individual and team competitions. Following her qualification in March, Chloe went on to perform incredibly well on Saturday, to be placed fifth overall in Europe for the History Bee individual event. Chloe also competed in a number of academic exams for which she won three gold medals and one silver – the highest overall scorer of her age division!

The team event was an incredibly competitive affair with over 30 teams competing across the divisions. CLC were undefeated in the first five preliminary rounds, entering the quarter-finals as the second highest scoring team.

We very quickly progressed to the semis and then the final, competing against École Jeannine Manuel from Paris. Going into the final, the girls were calm and collected and definitely handling things a lot better than I was! It was an incredibly close match, and everything came down to a final tie-break question to see our students crowned as European Champions!

CLC is the first-ever female single-sex school to win at this level and the first all-female team to win since 2013!

This weekend has been a testament to the hard work and dedication of Jonette, Cerys and especially Chloe for getting the Olympiad off the ground and bringing home the gold not just once, but twice.

We are now organising to host nationals next year at CLC, where we will be defending our titles as National and European Champions.
