Library Music Night Autumn Term 2026
Library Music Night Autumn Term 2026
Last Friday, staff and students gathered for the first Library Music Night of the year, and what a treat it was!
We love this event! The super-human Porters transformed our lovely Main Library from a serious study space to a vibrant concert venue. At 7pm, the main lights went out, and the stage lights went on - blue and red and all the colours.
We enjoyed a breadth of exciting music, from contemporary pop and musical theatre to memorable instrumental music and several original compositions. All performers brought their own distinctive style to the stage, showcasing not just their technical ability but also a genuine passion for their music. Whether performing solo or as part of an ensemble, every participant contributed to an evening that was uplifting, inspiring, and so much fun.
As usual, it’s so hard to pick out highlights, but notable mentions must go to Regina, Andrea and Heidi’s Swift-Rodrigo mashup. The LC1 band with If We Had Each Other, and Olivia’s stonking sax instrumental, which featured a first-ever power-walk through the audience.
After some refreshments during the interval, the programme kept on giving. Especially memorable moments included Martha’s interpretation of Humming by Gracie Abrams, Manon’s exquisite rendition of Flowers from Hadestown, and Terra and Faith's cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide. The original compositions were also a triumph. Please keep on writing, people!
We are so grateful to all of our performers for sharing their talents and passion. Not least of all, the House Band, aka Vic & Mick, who, according to tradition, opened and closed the show. And so, a special thanks must go to Ms Brandon and her husband Mick for compiling the programme and for dealing with all things tech on the night. They brought down the house by honouring Dolly Parton with the final singalong to her legendary song Jolene. What a moment!
Final huge thanks must go to Mr Carr, our charming compère for the evening, and to the audience for their exemplary conduct and appreciative support for all our acts.
Together, they made for the most magical atmosphere, allowing us to celebrate the truly remarkable musical talent we have here at College.
Already, we look forward to the next edition of Library Music Night on the last Friday of January.
