Poetry Slam

Poetry Slam!

Throughout the year, several students have taken part in an exciting Young Poets project, with the Cheltenham Education Partnership. This collaborative programme has brought together young writers from a variety of local schools, providing us with the opportunity to develop our performance poetry through a series of engaging and creative workshops.

During these sessions, students explored a range of techniques, from crafting powerful imagery and meaningful themes, to mastering the art of delivering poetry with confidence and impact. Working alongside peers from different schools allowed for the sharing of ideas, supportive feedback and a real sense of creative community. It has been inspiring to see voices grow stronger and more assured over time.

We were proud to recently host the final Poetry Slam event, welcoming students, staff and guests for an evening of powerful performance. Representing our school, Abby (LC3), Grace (UC4) and Janice (SFC1) each took to the stage to present their original work. Their performances were thoughtful, expressive and captivating, demonstrating both skill and courage.

The event was made even more special by the presence of award-winning poet and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Dean Atta, who commended the students on the strength and creativity of their writing. His praise highlighted just how impactful and accomplished these young poets have become.

Looking ahead, the Young Poets programme will begin again in September and will be open to all CLC students. We encourage anyone with an interest in writing or performance to take part and discover the power of their own voice.
