Social Action at CLC
What a fantastic term we've had! This half term has seen lots of fundraising activities in addition to all of our community work with local partners.
We were lucky to have Jane from Longfield Hospice and Toni from Gloucestershire Young Carers visit and talk to our UC4s about all the vital work they do. To collaborate with our charity and determine how we might help them, we have now established working groups. Watch this space for more exciting updates!
Our approximate running total this term is £15,700.
Music Concert at Woodmancote Primary School
Our wonderful SFC1s performed a music concert for Woodmancote Primary School. Pupils from Year 2 to Year 6 enjoyed a musical medley, featuring Disney classics, Christmas songs, and some K-pop. All the children sang along and enjoyed trying to guess the music. Thank you to Audrey, Charmaine, Sophia, Costanza and Nicole (SFC1) for planning and performing.
It was great to see the children engaging with the music and experiencing a variety of instruments being played by some very talented young ladies.

Organ session with Mr Williams
College Organist, Mr Simon Williams, conducted an organ lesson with Christchurch Primary School in the Princess Hall. Students in Year 6 had the opportunity to learn how the organ operates and give it a try; they also enjoyed listening to some music.

Carol Singing at Astell House
This year, a group of volunteers went to Astell House to sing Christmas carols. The residents really enjoyed the music, which brought back many lovely Christmas memories. Thank you to all those involved!
The residents had an absolutely lovely time. The girls were brilliant, and everyone enjoyed it. Thank you so much, Happy Christmas to you all!

Fundraising and Donations
Book Donations to Local Partners
This year, our English prefects donated some used books to our local partners. Costanza and Hailey (SFC2) categorised and packed 438 books, which went to Cornerstone Pantry, Christchurch Primary School, Faithfull House and St John’s Primary. Thank you for your time sorting and organising the donations!
Thank you for your thoughtful gesture. The residents and staff were very touched. It’s always very special to re-read a much-loved book or discover a new one. I wish you all a joyful and restful festive season.

Glenlee Foodbank Baking Donations
This term, our Glenlee Charity Committee raised funds to bake for a local foodbank at Elim Pentecostal Church.
Initially, we held a ‘Glenlee Prize Draw’ with girls paying 50p for a ticket. Prizes included vouchers (and permission!) for a takeaway, chocolate treats and lifts to College! We used this money to buy ingredients, and our first delivery was over 80 muffins.
When local families visit the foodbank at Elim, they are invited to stay for a chat, a hot drink and something to eat, and the muffins went down well. This first delivery was also well-timed, as Elim opened its doors to offer shelter to those without a warm home on one of the coldest days of the year.

Glenlee Christmas Crafts
Every year, we hold a Glenlee Christmas Family Day, and this year we sold lots of crafts alongside hosting a Concert and a mini Panto. We intend to divide the money raised between the College charity and to enable us to restock our ingredients for the foodbank.
Anantarra, Mumbi, and Andrea have led this project, with a lot of help from many girls in the House.

Sidney Lodge Halloween Crafts
To raise money for a shed for the creche at St Hilda’s East, Rose (LC3) organised a Halloween crafting event. Girls made decorations and donated approximately £60 towards the shed. Many thanks to everyone who came and supported the event!
St Austin’s Winter Wonderland
St Austin’s held their first Winter Wonderland. Girls made Christmas crafts, snacked on Christmas treats and got into the Christmas spirit. They raised over £165 for College Charities. Thank you to everyone who took part!
Cambray Candy Cane Sale
We raised £276 for our College charities through our Cambray candy cane sale, bringing students together in an impactful way. It was a simple idea that showcased how powerful our community can be when everyone is involved. Giving back is important to us, and this fundraiser was an amazing reminder of the positive impact we can make when we support one another.

Staff EET Christmas Decorations Workshop
On Monday 8th December, the EET Department hosted a wonderful Christmas workshop, giving colleagues the opportunity to create personalised Christmas decorations for their family and friends, while enjoying some drinks and nibbles.
All proceeds raised (£105) from the 3D printed decorations went to St Hilda’s East and the Greenpower Team.
Thank you, James and Vicki, for getting us right into the Christmas spirit. It was lovely to relax and get crafty together, whilst raising money for the Green Power Car and SHE!

Hong Kong Fires Bake Sale
Last term, some of our Prefects and UC5s held a charity bake sale and Tanghulu stall in the GCR to support the Hong Kong Red Cross, following the devastating Tai Po fire.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the school community, we raised over £330 in total. The stalls sold out quickly, and many students chose to donate directly as well, which was truly heartwarming to see.
We are so grateful for everyone’s support and kindness; it made a real difference, and it meant a great deal to those of us personally connected to Hong Kong

Cheltenham Foodbank Hot Chocolate Sale
The Lantern Project hosted a hot chocolate sale to raise £179 for our local food bank.
We got the idea when we heard the food benefits program, SNAP, in the US was cut from funding. While the UK doesn't have SNAP benefits like those in the United States, the spirit behind such programs, ensuring no one goes hungry, reminded us of our shared responsibility to support other members of the community facing difficult times.
As winter settles in and the cost of living continues to challenge many families, a simple meal really can make a difference. We wanted to come together as a school and make a real difference for those who need it most. We hope to have inspired you to go out and find opportunities to make a difference!

SHE Christmas Gift Appeal
Once again, we launched our St Hilda’s East Christmas gift appeal. Houses collected and donated an incredible number of presents. Some Houses coordinated to purchase a larger gift, such as a sewing machine for the Women’s group and aprons for the creche. Thank you for your kind generosity. The gifts were very gratefully received!
Christmas Cake Donations
This year, we donated our House Christmas cakes to Foodbank and Cheltenham OpenDoor. They were delighted with the beautifully decorated cakes and said their centre users really look forward to eating them every year. Many thanks to the girls and House staff who baked and decorated them all.
