Spanish Film Day 2026

Spanish Film Day 2026

On Wednesday 7th October, we were joined by local sixth form students from 6 different schools for the annual CLC Spanish Film Day.

We watched two films, ‘Volver’ and ‘María, llena eres de gracia'. Both films explored different topics studied throughout the Spanish A level, such as feminism, changing attitudes towards women, the patriarchy, and immigration in the Hispanic world.

Our day began with a short lecture on the history of Spanish film, the rise of heroine characters and the evolution of Pedro Almodóvar’s filmmaking.

After each film, we described the important scenes, dissected the main characters and were encouraged to share ideas with students from different schools. This allowed us to meet new people and make new friends.

As a Year 13 student, I found the Film Day very helpful for consolidating the films that we studied in class. I found ‘María, llena eres de gracia’ truly gripping, and it exposed me to aspects of life in Colombia that I was not previously aware of.
