Sport Performance Highlights in October
Sport Performance Highlights
Swimming
Following a very encouraging start to the swimming season at the Cheltenham and District Schools Relay Championships, our swimmers travelled to their first away meet of the year at the South West Regional Relays.
The meet was a great opportunity for the swimmers to build on their performances so far this term and experience racing at a higher level. Across all age groups, there was a noticeable step forward from last week’s District Relays, with swimmers racing with greater confidence and determination against strong competition from across the region.
It was particularly exciting to see how quickly the team has progressed in such a short space of time. Beyond the individual performances, there was also a brilliant team atmosphere, with everyone supporting one another throughout the day and representing College incredibly well away from home.
Overall, it was a fantastic first away meet and an exciting indication of what this group of swimmers can achieve as the season progresses.
Lacrosse
Congratulations to the LC1s who represented College in their first-ever lacrosse matches at the Junior Welsh Rally on Saturday 3rd October.
It was truly wonderful to see our players embrace the challenge of performing newly acquired skills in a competitive environment – that is bravery in action!
They made improvements in understanding and execution of both tactics and skills in match play and, most importantly, they worked together throughout the day, demonstrating support for each other, motivation, and a beautiful camaraderie.
Equestrian
The Equestrian team has had a busy start to the term, with riders representing CLC at National Schools events, show jumping and eventing.
At CLC’s own show at Rectory Farm, Eva (UC3) won the 70cm and Poppy (LC2) came second in the 60cm.
At Hartpury NSEA, we had an amazing day with Chenxi (LC2) winning both the 80 and 90cm, Eva (UC3) winning the 70cm Jumping with Style Competition, Seraphine (UC5) coming third in the 80cm, and Poppy fifth in the 70cm!
Poppy, Eva, Chenxi, Seraphine and Meredith have all qualified for the National Championships, which is a huge achievement!
Seraphine also had a great day at Gatcombe Horse Trials with a second-place finish. She was also the only double clear without time penalties.
Eva added to her success by winning both the 70 and 80cm classes at her first affiliated British Showjumping Competition.
Last week was rounded off by girls playing some fabulous Polo chukkas in the autumn sunshine.
Skiing
Over the weekend, students took part in their first Snow Race of the season, completing two sessions on a dry slope.
The team leaders all led course inspections well and ensured that everyone was okay with the course and how to ski.
Run one was amazing, with everyone achieving great times. CLC managed to get through run one without any DNFs, which is a notable achievement for all of us! The ending was tight. However, we all managed to ski through it and ‘beat’ the course, which is amazing!
Nearly everyone improved on their run one time, with a notable achievement going to Ines for improving her time by almost a second and achieving the fastest time for CLC today!
Although the conditions of the snow were noticeably icier and rutted on the second run, we all tackled the course with tenacity and did incredibly well.
"Well done to everyone! We have a great year ahead and can’t wait to see what we achieve!"
