Support for families and pupils impacted by the proposed closure of Malvern St James

Support for Malvern St James

All at CLC are shocked and upset to read of the proposed closure of Malvern St James, and we would like to extend our thoughts and support to the whole school community, as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

Until their recent move to co-ed, MSJ was an all-girls school and, as such, their values, holistic education and personalised approach still align strongly with what we believe here at CLC.

As an all-girls school for 11-18 year olds, CLC has a deep commitment to the values and benefits of all-girls education at this critical stage of their learning journey: we would like to offer the following support processes for girls and their parents.

For pupils about to enter Year 11 or Year 13, we understand that this might be a particularly worrying time, as you consider how your daughter can continue her education as seamlessly as possible.

We have close alignment with MSJ across a number of GSCE and A Level exam boards, and we would be pleased to offer a 1-2-1 online meeting with one of our senior Academic team or the Director of Admissions. We will look at your daughter's GCSE or A Level pathway and consider how we might be able to support her. If you would like to make an appointment for a 1-2-1 discussion, please email admissions@cheltladiescollege.com.

If you are due to transition to other year groups, please do contact admissions@cheltladiescollege.com and we can arrange a 1-2-1 call with a member of the Admissions team or the relevant Head of Division to discuss your daughter's position and what we may be able to do to support.

We would like to invite parents and their daughters to an Open Morning event on Monday 4th May from 10.30am - 2.00pm. There will be an opportunity to meet key members of the CLC teams (academic, pastoral, day, boarding and co-curricular), tour the campus and Houses, and to speak directly with the Admission team about possible next steps. To register for this event, please email visits@cheltladiescollege.com.

We are genuinely saddened to see MSJ in such a difficult position and send our best wishes to parents, pupils, staff and all who are affected.

Find out how we could support you

Please contact admissions@cheltladiescollege.com so that we can arrange a discussion with our Admissions Director, Mr Richard Houchin, and relevant members of the academic team. Alternatively, please register for our Open Day on Monday 4th May.

In the first instance, please contact us for a discussion so that we can understand your individual situation admissions@cheltladiescollege.com. We can then ensure that we have the relevant members of the academic team on hand to address concerns and queries, and then confirm any admissions requirements.

Yes! There is significant crossover in both GCSE and A Level examination boards between MSJ and CLC. Whilst there may be some differences in the order of teaching of subjects, we are confident that we can support many subjects and examinations at this crucial period in your daughter's studies. For immediate discussions on Year 11/Sixth Form (2026-27) Transition, and for those looking to move into Year 10/Lower Sixth Form, please email admissions@cheltladiescollege.org.

We are looking to make any transition as seamless and easy to navigate as possible. We will treat each application with the care and detail it deserves. As a starting point, it would be useful to have the last 2 reports your daughter has received, as well as any baseline data/testing outcomes (such as ALIS/MidYIS/Yellis) to hand. Please do contact us at each year point, and we will discuss that with you during our online or in-person meeting.

We are keen to support transport for families in the area, and with a number of girls already travelling in from Malvern and the surrounding areas, we are looking at a range of options to enable this.

We have an extensive pastoral support network in place and regularly welcome pupils across all year groups at different points of the school year. CLC prides itself on its inclusive and friendly community, and we hope that, if you are able to visit us, you and your daughter will be reassured by meeting pupils and staff. If a face-to-face visit is not possible, we are happy to arrange online meetings with relevant members of the team. Please do also explore our website to get more of a sense of life at CLC.

CLC's Scholarships are Honorary and carry no financial reward. However, we would look, where appropriate, to award these highly prestigious accolades to deserving applicants. CLC prides itself on supporting families and pupils by way of means-tested Bursaries named in honour of former Headmistress, Dorathea Beale. If you are presently in receipt of means-tested support, please contact us to discuss further.
