Supporting Bursaries: "CLC gives every girl a platform to find their place in the world"
Supporting Bursaries
As I look back on my time at CLC - and as I have watched my daughter’s journey post CLC through College (in the US) and into the job market - I believe the greatest gifts we both left school with were not our academics or the accolades we may have gathered along the way.
We left CLC with core beliefs that seem so much more important than any job title or social standing in the final count: to see the strength in being a female, to seek joy in life, to not be ashamed of having passion or ambition, to sit strong in our independence but rejoice in being part of a team, to care about the people in our lives and give of ourselves to others, to face adversity with curiosity and determination, to volunteer for those less fortunate than us, to feel a deep responsibility to protect our planet and (for me!) to be fearless in raising my children to know what it is to be independent thinkers and contributing citizens of the world.
We need more people who are not afraid or intimidated to be the only person in the room with a different viewpoint!
Equally, it is not lost on me that a time when our world is in so much turmoil and there seems to be so much division everywhere we look - locally and globally - it saddens me that we no longer seem to recognise diversity as one of our greatest strengths.
I was talking to my daughter over text the other day and she wrote something that resonated deeply: “I think racism and nationalism boggle my mind so much because I can’t comprehend diversity not being one of the best parts of humanity.”
It is my strong belief that we both learned that ethos at CLC and embraced it as a given;
ethnicity, background, social status were never a barrier to forming deep, deep connections with the people around us.
Whether it be students, teachers, house staff or maintenance workers — our differences were seen as nothing but positives.
I believe CLC gives every girl a platform to find their place in the world.
At its core, I left CLC believing I could be who I wanted, follow whatever path I chose and never see myself as anything other than an equal to anyone I might encounter along the way.
