Beneath the traditional image lies a school that has long seen itself as quietly progressive, even “mutinous” in its thinking about girls’ education, with a focus on intellectual freedom, breadth and purpose.

All-Girls education

"[CLC] sees its single-sex identity as an educational tool: a way of creating space for girls to take intellectual risks, choose subjects freely, speak up without performance, and stay children for longer before leaving with [...] a 'metaphorical suit of armour'."

Town Centre school

"Cheltenham itself is part of the story. This is very much a town centre school [... with] the advantages of being woven into a town with festivals, shops, public life and other schools close by. They are in a girls-only school, yes, but not in a girls-only universe."

For all its prestige, what stays with us most is not the reputation but the mood: girls who seem expected to think, to try, to speak, to stretch, to fail sometimes, and ultimately to leave with far more than a collection of grades.
