Girls in the Arts
The arts have always been a fundamental part of life at College and, each year, around 10-15% of girls go on to study an arts related subject at university, as well as many other students pursuing their talent and love for music, art, or drama in addition to their studies.
Our Guild members' achievements and contributions across the arts are extensive, from BAFTA award-winning actress and director Kristin Scott Thomas DBE to world-renowned artist Bridget Riley CBE and fashion designer Amanda Wakeley OBE.
We are dedicated to promoting the arts across College and beyond. Our Parabola Arts Centre, opened by Sir Richard Eyre in 2009, houses a 325-seat theatre, gallery, rehearsal spaces, offices, video editing suite, dance studio and library, as well as bar and foyer area, to allow for a range of performances, exhibitions and events. The Princess Hall, which seats around 1,200 people, is often used for major music concerts throughout the year and College recently invested in a new recording studio in the Music Department and a new Dance Studio at our Health and Fitness Centre.
In 2021, the most popular choice among our leavers pursuing subjects within the arts was History of Art, followed by Art or an Art Foundation course. Other courses chosen by our 2021 leavers included Industrial Design, Interior Design and Film Studies. Popular university destinations among this group of CLC leavers include Central St Martins, Edinburgh, UCL and Pratt Institute, New York.
Below is a small selection of some of our prominent Guild members within these fields over the last 160 years (in alphabetical order).
