So far this term, 640 pupils have participated in a College fixture or weekend sporting activity. There have been numerous successes – here are just a few: We are currently the U16 County Netball champions, we came third in the U19 County Netball Tournament, we have 40 CLC pupils currently involved in the performance pathway for hockey, numerous players in the lacrosse Academy pathways, as well as pupils in the netball pathways. Annie in Lower College is the Gloucestershire Badminton Champion at U14 and U18. We have three pupils playing county cricket and have many pupils competing in equestrian events from entry level through to international level.

For the first time, College had three teams competing at the ESAA Cross Country Regional Cup Finals. Our runners did themselves proud over a challenging undulating course. The leg-sapping, tempo-halting banks saw them dig deep to produce gritty performances. Our Seniors finished in fifth place, Intermediates in eighth and Juniors in 10th – all awe-inspiring results at this hotly contested event.
The U14 County Netball Tournament saw our squad play in their performance tournament of the year. It was fantastic to see them grow in confidence during the game, and they were serious contenders for the top two places. Despite the conditions changing from bright sunshine to a dark, rainy cauldron, they never gave up and learned so much from the experience. We were really proud of them for finishing fourth in the whole of Gloucestershire – an awesome achievement.
The U13 netball team recorded a fantastic last-minute victory in a nail-biting match against Dauntsey’s School, Wiltshire in the School Sport Magazine National Schools Competition. They now progress to the fourth round of the competition – well done everyone!

Congratulations to Sophie and Sophia (both UC5 / Year 11) and Bella (SFC1 / Year 12) for being asked to join the England Hockey Talent Academy in Stourport, and to the students who played their first Gloucestershire County Hockey fixtures over the last few weeks.
This week saw the Emily Sumaria Memorial Match, which was a fantastic occasion. Win or lose, our players got to experience a fixture that they will remember for years to come. The game was played at a fabulous pace, with tenacity in abundance between two schools trying to play the game the right way. It was wonderful to have Mr and Mrs Sumaria present supporting the match in memory of Emily.
SFC2 (Year 13) student Jemima said:
"The Emily Sumaria Memorial Match is always a highlight in the calendar as it is a chance to play a high standard of hockey in front of a crowd. This year’s match was fiercely contested with both sides giving their all, leading to an equally matched first half. CLC had lots of possession in the first half and played the majority in Cheltenham College's half, creating some chances for a goal. Although the game was evenly matched, a few breakaway goals from Cheltenham College led to them taking the trophy. We came away knowing that we gave our best."
It was a great day of lacrosse at the Super Counties event in the November sunshine! Players from around the South West are invited to develop their individual skills and lacrosse IQ through training and tournament play across two days. CLC was represented in both the U19 and U15 age groups with Aurora (SFC1 /Year 12), Luli, Portia, Christy, Elizabeth, Gabriella, Eyimofe, Bibi and Arabella (all UC4 / Year 10) across several different teams. It was wonderful to see so many of our players taking advantage of the opportunity.
On Saturday, CLC hosted our first badminton School Girls’ Doubles Tournament. We fielded teams in all three age groups. The standard was high, and overall we came third in the U18 category, and fourth in both U16 and U14 age categories. The matches were played in a competitive and fun fashion and with excellent sportsmanship. A big thank you to Fiorella (SFC2 / Year 13) for assisting on the results table all afternoon.
