Physics and Engineering Week 2026

Physics and Engineering Week 2026

We celebrated Physics and Engineering Week with an array of engaging activities, showcasing our pupils’ creativity, perseverance, and problem-solving skills.

Form time quizzes sparked discussion, while “hang time” paper plane challenges explored aerodynamics through iteration. The spaghetti and marshmallow tower task encouraged rapid prototyping and teamwork under pressure.

True innovation rarely comes from getting things right first time; instead, it grows from moments when things go wrong. Learning from failure, refining ideas, and trying again are what define great engineers.

One highlight saw students engineering protective designs for eggs, which were then put to the ultimate test by being hit with a rounders bat, demonstrating vividly how experimentation and failure lead to improvement.

Further experiences on offer included rocket launches, the immersive Star Lab, and Tech-Dissect sessions, where our wonderful IT department supported the students in dismantling PCs and a server.

Our SFC1 students extended their learning with visits to Spirax Sarco, and celebrated achievement at the Industrial Cadet Gold award day.
