Food and nutrition aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating.
Students learn a range of practical skills whilst preparing and cooking nutritious dishes. The knowledge and skills gained will enable them to feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously, now and later in life.
Food and nutrition is a compulsory part of the curriculum during LC1 and LC2 but is optional in LC3. Emphasis is on the development of practical skills and an enjoyment and appreciation of good quality home cooked food.
Pupils can opt to study a GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition. The course includes the development of practical skills, with an emphasis on nutrition, food provenance and food science.
