STEM

Chemistry

This Summer Term saw a flurry of Chemistry competitions that challenged students to showcase their knowledge of Chemistry and problem-solving skills. Some of the highlights included the RSC Analytics Challenge, the National Scientific Thinking Challenge, and the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge C3L6.

Engineering, Enterprise and Technology

Arkwright Scholarship

Alyssa, Toby and Eunis (UC5) received the prestigious Arkwright Scholarship.

Well done, all!

Greenpower Racing

The CLC Greenpower team enjoyed a successful day at Bedford Autodrome earlier this term, achieving impressive 7th and 6th place finishes in their races.

Textiles

Having been selected as one of four finalists in the UK Young Fashion Designer Competition, Penny (UC4) was chosen as the national winner in her age group (Year 10-11)!

History

History Olympiad European Champions 2026

Over the half term break, three SFC1 students were crowned European Champions at the International History Olympiad in Berlin. Making CLC the first ever female single-sex school to win at this level and the first all-female team to win since 2013!

Throughout the weekend, there were numerous events, including both individual and team competitions. Following her qualification in March, Chloe went on to perform incredibly well to be placed fifth overall in Europe for the History Bee individual event. Chloe also competed in a number of academic exams for which she won three gold medals and one silver – the highest overall scorer of her age division!

Fitzwilliam College Competition

Amy (SFC1) placed runner-up in the Fitzwilliam College competition for her History essay. Well done, Amy!

Modern Languages

This term saw some brilliant successes across MFL competitions, including the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators, the Routes Into Languages Translation Bee and the Oxford University 2026 French Flash Fiction competition.

Congratulations to everyone who took part on these fantastic achievements.

Debating and Public Speaking

World Individuals' Debating and Public Speaking Competition

Renne represented Team England at this year's World Individuals' Debating and Public Speaking Competition. She ranked in the top 12 in the Persuasive Speaking event as a finalist, and made it to the semi-finals for her Interpretive Reading, out of over 160 participants!

Lacrosse

2026 Home Internationals

Congratulations to Charlotte (SFC1) for receiving her first International Cap representing Scotland U20 and earning MVP for her performance in the match against England at the annual Home Internationals over the Easter break.

Women's European Box Lacrosse Championships

Gabbie (SFC2) represented England in the inaugural Women's European Box Lacrosse Championships in Prague. She has played three games for England as a defender, helping the team secure two wins in the opening round-robin stages, including an epic comeback against Germany in overtime.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis International Schools Tournament

Sarah (SFC1) represented England at the Table Tennis International Schools Tournament in Cardiff. She had a busy weekend, playing against Guernsey, Ireland, Jersey, Scotland and Wales, picking up a bronze medal in the team event and a gold medal in the singles consolation event.

Equestrian

NSEA Showjumping Competition

Earlier this term, CLC’s Equestrian team had a very successful day at Rectory Farm Arena’s NSEA Showjumping Competition. Charlotte produced excellent, clear rounds in her two classes. Poppy had an outstanding day, coming in second in the 60cm and winning in the 70cm, qualifying for the Championships in both classes.

Eva produced an amazing, fast clear in the 75cm class, over 4 seconds faster than anyone else to win, immediately followed by a scorching round in the 80cm to win by 6 seconds! Eva has also qualified for the Championships in both classes.

Music and Dance

Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts

Olivia (SFC1) achieved notable success, winning the Year 10 and Under saxophone category and later receiving the prestigious Young Musician of the Year Award for her performance of Amy Quate's Light of Sothis.

Carmel (SFC1) also excelled, winning the highly competitive Solo Woodwind or Brass Recital (Age 19 and Under).

Xuan Xuan (SFC1) achieved phenomenal success in dance, earning a Gold Medal and the Senior Ballet Trophy for the highest Ballet Solo score across all classes, as well as two Silver Medals for her performances in both the Lyrical and Modern categories. She was invited to perform in the Young Performers Award event, where she later won the prestigious title of Young Dancer of the Year.

Economics

Minds Underground Global Essay Competition and 2026 Cambridge Economics and Finance Competition

Sarah (SFC1) achieved success in two prestigious economics competitions, earning a Behavioural Economics-Commended Award at the Minds Underground Global Essay Competition and receiving an invitation to the Economics Camp at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. She also secured a Silver Award, placing in the top 30% worldwide, in the 2026 Cambridge Economics and Finance Competition and qualified for the 2026 global round at the University of Cambridge.

Economics World Cup

Both SFC1 CLC teams successfully progressed beyond the first round of the World Economics Cup and will represent the UK in the European round of the competition this summer. Special recognition goes to Amy, who achieved an outstanding score of 97/100, placing her among the top 10 students in the UK!
