On Tuesday 18th June, we were delighted to virtually welcome to College Teresa Carey (Assistant Director of Admissions), Scott Campbell (Executive Director of Admissions and Recruitment) and Robyn Koren (Assistant Director of Admissions) from Cornell University’s College of Engineering. With an audience made up of CLC students from UC4 and above and parents and students from our partner schools, our three guests provided valuable insights into the world class faculty, the variety of majors and minors within the College of Engineering and the hands-on learning approach that students experience.
After three of our fantastic SFC2 students received admit decisions from Cornell during this admissions cycle, we were delighted to hear about the inclusive global community on campus. The office of International Services offer a unique orientation programme for the undergraduate international cohort. They offer resources and guidance on visas, travel and employment, as well as specific trips and events to help grow the community of international students within Cornell. It is comforting to know that even outside of academics, students are made to feel welcome and as part of the community, adding to their excitement as they embark on this new journey, beyond just academics.
Teresa and her team also spoke to how the concept of interdisciplinary study is embedded in the culture across Cornell’s undergraduate colleges. Physical education classes, and even a swim test, ensure that students at Cornell receive a comprehensive, well-rounded education. The ability to minor across different undergraduate colleges allows for the flexibility to explore different disciplines beyond their major. This type of education not only broadens their knowledge base but also cultivates a diverse skill set, preparing them to successfully navigate and adapt to various challenges they might encounter beyond university.
On behalf of CLC, we extend our sincerest gratitude to Teresa, Scott and Robyn for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their insight with us.
